National Geographic has received six Ellie finalist nominations from the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME). The Ellie Awards recognize “print and digital publications that consistently demonstrate superior execution of editorial objectives, innovative techniques, noteworthy enterprise and imaginative design,” according to ASME’s website. This year, National Geographic magazine received five finalist nominations, including for the General Excellence award; National Geographic Traveler magazine received a nomination as well.

- General Excellence (News, Sports and Entertainment)
- Single-Topic Issue: “Gender Revolution” January 2017 issue
- Reporting (in partnership with ProPublica): “How the U.S. Triggered a Massacre in Mexico”
National Geographic Traveler magazine (1):
- Digital Innovation: “North: An Illustrated Travelogue”
“I could not be more proud of these accomplishments,” wrote Susan Goldberg, National Geographic magazine Editor-in-Chief and National Geographic Partners Editorial Director, in a memo to National Geographic magazine colleagues. “This year we can and should celebrate how much of our exceptional work was acknowledged by our peers as among the best in the business.”
