Based on the novel of the same name by Terry McMillan, Angela Bassett stars as tenacious Stella Payne, a 40-year-old hard-working and successful stockbroker, divorcee and single mother in “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.” Stella is convinced by her friends (played by Whoopi Goldberg and Regina King) to take a much needed, and well-deserved, vacation to Jamaica.
While in Jamaica, she meets a handsome young man named Winston Shakespeare, played by Taye Diggs, who happens to be 20 years her junior, and they are soon entangled in a steamy romance. Throughout the film, Stella struggles with trying to make space in her life for Winston while juggling her career, parenthood and friendships.
Here is a look back at scenes from “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” (produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox Film) from the Fox Archives Photography collection, as well as the film’s trailer:
The Fox Archives is mandated to collect, catalog, preserve and make accessible the following assets of the 20th Century Fox studios: props, set decoration, photographs, art department and publicity materials from our film and television productions, and from the 20th Century Fox studio itself. We work primarily with internal Fox groups but also from time to time with outside organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.
